Jesus said: “When you pray....”
Jesus said: “When you fast....”
PRAY DAILY: “give us this day our daily....”
FAST OCCASIONALLY : “This type goes out only by prayer and fasting....”
P.S. Jesus words suggest that for us unlike Himself, Moses and Elijah that fasted for forty days that no more than a three day fast will suffice: “Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.”
P.P.S. And unlike Moses and others that fasted the scriptures clearly states in each one of these particulars that they fasted by abstaining from food and water with the differences only in the length of days. The scriptures state that when Jesus fasted that “....he was afterward an hungred.” not and thirsty. Not to assume, but only pointing out that water was not mentioned as in other Fast it is. With that I have knowledge of a few more biblical Fasts: 1 Resting for a day and this doesn’t include abstaining from food and water. 2 Humbling ones self and spending time to care for others. 3 Abstaining from food and water for awhile. And 4, abstaining from food.
Personally I fasted 3 days when I thought it was needed “This type....” or just to be in line with Jesus’ Words: “....When ye fast....” and “....then shall they fast in those days.” I suggest that the time/when and length and or type of fast be at the discretion of each individual; but to Fast nevertheless to be included in our walk with God.
P.S. Lately I’ve been Fasting once every two months, but for only 24 hours. [2019]
